Clean house

I'm pretty proud of how clean the house is this weekend.

I've not done all the ironing I was going to do, but I've ironed a shirt for tomorrow and I'll do another one tomorrow night. I got a bit frustrated.

Now I'm watching a TV show about werewolves.

Ace

My cat is really into having company at the moment. She wont come into the main house for it, but she sits in the study doorway looking sad until I join her in 'her room' and she can properly chill in human company.

She also started playing! With cat toys!

Notting Hill

So me and Mal watched Notting Hill tonight for the first time. I identified so strongly with William Thackery, the hapless main character, that I was actually saying some of his lines a beat before he said them.

The movie was funny and feel good, and we had a good laugh.

First day back

Today was my first day back at work, so I was up at 6am. I ended up being there half an hour early. I took a pretty leisurely lunch break because of that.

Mal and I watched The Host tonight. We both really like the book (by Stephanie Meyer), but the movie is really only worth watching if you've read the book. We can't imagine how the movie makes sense if you haven't. Visually its nice, but its just missing so much detail and depth and well, most of the stuff that made the book interesting.

To be honest, not much happened today and I'm tired from working so I'll probably have an early night.

Chicken and Chips

I've been in a bit of a funk lately, but today I felt better. I slept in until midday, and then got up and started doing laundry and made my girlfriend and I breakfast and folded clothes and did more laundry and folded more clothes and hand washed all my bras and did MORE LAUNDRY and folded yet more clothes. The laundry and clean clothes have both been kind of piling up lately.

I also played some Pokemon Let's Go and got past the electric gym finally. (I realised I could teach Eevee Dig which is a ground type move, and that solved all my problems).

So tonight we're having chicken and chips for dinner both because my girlfriend likes chicken and chips, and also cos I feel like celebrating my first funk free day coinciding with the commencement of the new year. Feels like an even better omen than the Lucky Cockroach that crossed my path last night.

Happy New Years!

Happy new years!

I had a lucky cockroach cross my path, which indicates wealth in the new year!

Stardew Valley

My girlfriend came home from working in Bendigo, and she's taking a long bath with a bath bomb and a Robin McKinley book (cos [personal profile] jamethiel recommended it to me, then I mentioned it to her, and she was intrigued) and I'm having a beer and rubbing my hands together and chuckling cos I got her a present!

She's been playing my copy of Stardew Valley and loving it so I just bought her a copy of her very own!

:D

I love getting people presents!

Games I'm Playing

At the moment I'm playing three games.

On PC I'm playing My Time at Portia, which is usually described as a cross between Stardew Valley and Breath of the Wild. Its a crafting and adventuring game where you run a workshop and dungeon crawl. It has charming relaxing music, and beautiful Studio Ghibli-esque art.

Its in Early Access and I don't usually buy Early Access, but I have done so on three occasions. The first time was Planet Explorers (also made by Pathea Games like My Time at Portia is), the second was Subnautica and then this. I was really impressed with Pathea Games handling of Planet Explorers, even though I never ended up playing that much, it wasn't because it was a bad game, it just wasn't for me. So when I was being tempted by My Time at Portia I played the free demo and really liked it. So when the Early Access was released I ended up taking the plunge. I've played about 20 hours and have been really impressed with the way the company is handling the release of new content. There's obviously Early Access issues like bugs, poor optimisation and incomplete voice acting and character story arcs, and the main quest isn't complete yet, so unless you are really keen on it I would actually recommend waiting until the final release. It is coming out soon on Switch and PC and promises to be a very well done and polished product when it does. I'll probably buy it on Switch when it comes out so I can play On The Go.

On Switch I'm playing Pokemon Lets Go: Eevee. My Eevee is named Bunny and she is the cutest thing. I love her. I'm stuck on the Electric gym at the moment cos the game was just so easy up til that point and then suddenly Lt Surge was just mopping the floor with my poor babies. So I need to catch a bunch more pokemon to get my teams level up. And probably not have half my team taken up with water and flying pokemon next time. Its just usually Bunny takes care of business and I don't have to rely on the rest of the team, so I had magikarp there for The Experience, and well, you can imagine how that went.

On my Nintendo 3DS I'm playing Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns. I love that game so much. I don't care what people say about Stardew Valley, Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns is just BETTER. I try to like Stardew Valley, I do, but it just doesn't grip me the same way. I'm part way through my first summer, so not everyone has moved into town yet, but I'm taking things slow and really playing at a leisurely pace this time. Trying not to let myself min-max or stress out about stuff. So far so good. The v1.1 patch finally dropped in the Europe/Australia region too so I can marry Ludus if I want without worrying about bugs. It doesn't look like we're getting the DLC though, which is a shame. I'd probably buy it out of loyalty, but honestly I'm not that heartbroken that we might not see the DLC. Its the bug fix patch I was mostly concerned about.

Anyway, in addition to playing games, I just read a bunch of YA novels by Becky Albertalli, and just started reading The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley which is really good. I'm also watching my way through the original Will & Grace on Stan which is such a product of its time. And I've been listening to Spotify to broaden my musical horizons. Mostly to find thematically appropriate music for these posts because at heart I'm a drama queen who's life needs a decent soundtrack. I've decided that I like the artist 'Bastille'.

Happy Holidays

I'm chillin' between Christmas parties at the moment. I went out to one earlier and had a delicious lunch with some friends, now for dinner some other friends are going to come to mine and hang out.

I hope that everyone is having a reasonably decent day.

Happy Solstice!

This year I gave up on trying to throw a Solstice party, though now I think about it its probably a good year for it. Solstice fell on the weekend, and its the day before a full moon for combined party shenanigans. But its a bit late now. I'll just drink some brandy and do my own thing I guess!

Instead this year I'm celebrating Christmas for the first time in years. I'm going to a friends house to Christmas lunch and then coming home to another Christmas party my housemate is hosting. Its gonna be a pretty exhausting day I reckon.

Dear Diary

I got drenched in the rain on the way to the work Christmas party this evening. But I made an appearance, ate some finger food had some beer and then left early. Now I'm home and snugly wrapped in my fuzziest bathrobe (I have more than one) and listening to music. My cat is curled up on my desk keeping me company and I'm working my way steadily through a bottle of red wine.

A much more pleasant way to spend an evening than at a work event.

Back to Dreamwidth!

I haven't been writing regularly for a long time and its something I want to change. I feel like Dreamwidth is a better format for the kind of writing I want to do than tumblr or another blogging platform. So here I am.

I'm so out of practice even my typing speed and accuracy is down from what it used to be. And my words come out in a jumble. But I wont get better if I don't start somewhere.

I'm probably going to do a combination of writing prompts and standard journal entries with the occasional rant about something interspersed.

God my spelling has gotten atrocious too.
